Purpose and Scope
This policy discloses what information we gather about you when you visit this site or sign up as a member.
It describes how we use that information and how you can control it. Our privacy policy addresses:
- Information we gather and track
- Personal information
- Cookies
- Notification of Changes
- How to update, correct, or delete your information
Information We Gather
We collect two kinds of information about users: 1) data that users
volunteer by signing up to receive news and product information,
entering contests, completing surveys, or buying directly from us;
and 2) aggregated tracking data we collect when users interact with us.
Personal Information
We use the personal information you provide voluntarily to send
information you've requested, to contact you as required.
When you sign up online to contribute to the Cookbook, whether to
write recipes or comment on them, you must provide your name, email
address, and mailing address. We never sell or rent your address
or other personally identifiable information you provide us under
these circumstances. Your name will be displayed as the contributor
of your material, of course. Our software is intended to prevent
other members from accessing your personal information:
We will not disclose your email address to anyone intentionally,
but will use it if another member sends you a private message.
If you directly reply to this message, your email address will,
of course, be revealed to the other member.
We will display your web site address, twitter, facebook, G+ and
similar profile addresses to other verified, logged-in members.
You are not required to provide these; do not list them unless
you want them visible to other members.
We will normally send you very occasional site mails, and you will
also by default be notified if one of your Recipes is commented on
or edited.
We do not share this information with any other company or organization,
except that we may have to give some information to O'Reilly Media
as part of preparing the published version of the Cookbook, or we
may be obliged by Law Enforcement to disclose information as part
of an investigation.
Cookies
A cookie is a small data file that we transfer to your computer's
hard drive through your web browser when you visit our sites. Cookies
enable our systems to recognize your computer, so that we can provide
you with personalized information and features. We also use cookies
to track user traffic patterns.
You can set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies or to block cookies.
If you block cookies, you will not be able to use most site features or functions.
Notification of Changes
When there are non-trivial changes to the site Privacy Policy or to its
Terms and Conditions, we will send an email to all registered members.
Since email is never totally reliable, you should check these two
documents periodially.
How to update, or correct your information
Use the Prefences or Profile link that appears at the top of every page
while you are logged in.
